Commercial Truck Driver, Willits, CA.

Job Purpose

The Commercial Truck Driver’s main responsibility is to drive safely, pick up and deliver product, undamaged, in a timely fashion, and communicate effectively and courteously with customers and vendors.  This position includes local drivers as well as those who work across the western United States.     


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain up to date Commercial Driver’s License and Medical Card (Class A, B, C)
    • Bi-annual physical (paid by Company)
  • Keep a daily log book to track hours
    • Take all required breaks and lunch
    • Work within appropriate schedule and regulatory requirements
  • Vehicle inspection and maintenance
    • Pre-trip, post-trip inspection of the tractor and trailer
    • Proficiently adjust tractor/trailer brakes
    • Clean inside and outside of vehicle; windshield and mirror maintenance is paramount
    • Maintain proper fuel level and DEF level (when applicable)
  • Deliver product to customers and pick up returns
    • Match outbound paperwork with load (Know your load!)
    • Maneuver tractor/trailer in and out of traffic, parking lots, and driveways
    • Use good judgement on when to, or not to, enter any specific area
    • When applicable, maintain the security of the load, i.e. periodically checking the tightness of tie down straps/ropes
    • Document return product; check paperwork, physical inspection, customer signature
  • Pickup product from vendor
    • Match inbound freight paperwork with load
    • Drop ship to customer or deliver to Sparetime Supply Wholesale (Company)
    • Deliver paperwork for inbound freight to proper department within Company


Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

High school graduate or equivalent



  • Ability to speak, read, and write English
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, initiative, and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to use common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to complete paperwork efficiently and accurately

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Proficient at commercial truck operation, experience with different transmissions
  • Basic trucker’s knots using ropes and straps
  • Excellent navigation skills, knowledge of maps and ability to use GPS
  • Ability to learn Electronic Log Books
  • Forklift operation, mechanical skills, or welding experience a plus

Working Conditions

The Commercial Truck Driver spends most of his/her time in the cab of the truck.  During loading, unloading and inspections, he/she is required to be outside of vehicle in all climates; including cold, rain, snow, and heat.   The employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, or agricultural elements due to the nature of the business. Must wear correct protective gear for handling items properly and safely.


Mandatory overtime in the busy season.


Physical Requirements

Ability to sit for extended periods of time, move/lift 50+ lbs., climb in and out of tractor, proper lifting techniques; good hearing and vision a plus
